SAFEBOARD® FMA
SAFEBOARD® FMA (Foam Manufacturing Assist) is a slab reinforcement and risk reduction system.
SAFEBOARD® FMA is a set of high-density, rigid foam panels that reinforce and support porcelain and other fragile slabs through the entire shipping, handling, fabrication, and installation process.
SAFEBOARD® FMA comes in Wave Tech configuration and is applied to your slab prior to fabrication. FMA stays permanently bonded to your slab and can be installed directly onto a countertop sub-top using SAFEBOND Adhesive. FMA provides for your slab:

With FMA bonded to your slab, you no longer need to fear catastrophic failure during handling, fabrication, and installation processes. FMA provides all the safety you need to use porcelain to its fullest. The panels are lightweight and easy to ship and install. FMA comes with pre-applied PSA adhesive, allowing for quick and easy installation onto your slab in under 10 minutes. Once applied and left to cure for 24 hours, the slab can be handled and fabricated like any other stone slab.

SAFEBOARD® FMA or FMA-MAX?
SAFEBOARD® offers both FMA and FMA-MAX. Which one is better to use in your application?
There are several important factors to consider, mainly: Surface Energy, and Shop Environment.
- PSA on FMA requires high surface energy to achieve the best bond.
- “Surface Energy” is how receptive a surface is to an adhesive – the higher the surface energy, the better the bond.
- Smooth-backed porcelain slabs have the highest surface energy, and as such are the best to bond to with FMA.
- For surfaces with low surface energy, use FMA-MAX instead of FMA.
- If there is airborne dust or high humidity in your shop, PSA’s bond may be negatively affected. Use this chart to determine if your shop environment is OK to apply PSA. Follow these steps to use the chart:
- Check the temperature of your shop.
- Check the humidity of your shop.
- Find your dew point from this chart.
- Check the surface temperature of your porcelain bonding surface.
- If your porcelain surface temperature is less than the dew point + 5°F, you cannot apply PSA.
Here’s an example:
Shop Temp: 70°F, Shop Humidity: 65%. 55°F Porcelain is less than the current 57 + 5°F (62°F) Dew Point, so you cannot apply PSA, and need to use FMA-MAX instead.
