SAFEBOARD® BÖXT Elements – Revolutionize Your Countertop Overhangs
SAFEBOARD® BÖXT Elements System is a structural finish product designed to complement OSP (Overhang Support Panel) and MCP (Modular Composite Panel). These Elements are available in specific shapes to reinforce and connect panels to meet a wide variety of project applications. Each BÖXT Element profile is designed to increase the structural and shear capacity of the sub-top system by means of a reinforcing cross section which adds bending strength and torsional resistance.
BÖXT Elements have the same functionality as SAFEBOARD Edge Caps, but have been designed with an additional web, forming a 5/8” “box” structure in the cross-section.
This increases rigidity, torsion, and shear capacity. OSP-X combined with BÖXT Elements is the highest strength synthesis of the SAFEBOARD system. This configuration lends itself well to the most demanding situations for overhangs and spans, and it functions as a pre-engineered method for building both custom and site-specific substrates and structures.

The BÖXT Elements system consists of seven elements: XC, XI XL1, XL2, XT, XW, and XX. Each element serves specific purposes as detailed below:
The XC-ELEMENT is the standard finish element for all exposed OSP panel edges. Additionally, the XC adds stiffness and support longitudinally to the panel edge and protects and completes the panel by sealing off the cell structure both functionally and aesthetically. The XC is spec’d for all external exposed edges of OSP and OSP-X.
Typical Applications:
- Install at all exposed edges in the Substrate Assembly
- Install on any exposed edge for closing off the panel cells, adding additional strength, and serving aesthetic function.
The XI-ELEMENT is designed to perfectly adjoin two adjacent SAFEBOARD® panels at 180°. Additionally, the XI adds stiffness and resistance to rotation for the joined panels and serves as a reinforcement Element for overhang and span applications.
Typical Applications:
- Install to join adjacent panels within the substrate assembly.
- Introduce between panels to increase strength for overhang and span capacity.
The XL1-ELEMENT is designed as a finish element to connect panels orthogonally to a surface such as a wall, floor, or ceiling. This Element features a single flange for anchoring while leaving one side clean for the finish work.
Typical Applications:
- Install on a wall or vertical structure to attach SAFEBOARD® panel to form a horizontal substrate surface.
- Install on floor or ceiling to end and anchor a vertically placed SAFEBOARD® panel, i.e., a waterfall, etc.
The XL2-ELEMENT, like the XL1, is designed s a panel finish element to connect panels orthogonally to a surface such as a wall, floor, or ceiling; however, the XL2 features extended flanges on both sides of the base for anchoring options.
Typical Applications:
- Install on a wall or vertical structure to attach SAFEBOARD® panel to form a horizontal substrate surface.
- Install on floor or ceiling to end and anchor a vertically placed SAFEBOARD® panel, i.e., a waterfall, etc.
The XT-ELEMENT is designed to perfectly adjoin both vertical and horizontal SAFEBOARD® panels at 90°. Additionally, the XT adds stiffness and resistance to rotation for the joined panels and serves as a reinforcement Element for a 3-way intersecting panels.
Typical Applications:
- Install to join three panels vertically and horizontally within the substrate assembly.
- Introduce XT between panels to increase strength and overall assembly capacity.
The XW-ELEMENT is designed to perfectly adjoin two SAFEBOARD® panels at 90°. Additionally, the XW adds stiffness and resistance to rotation for the joined panels, increasing the structural capacity of the assembly.
Typical Applications:
- Install to join horizontal vertical panels to create features such as a waterfalls.
- XW adds strength to the assembly to stabilize vertical panels at furniture ends, etc.
The XX-ELEMENT The XX-ELEMENT, like the XT, is designed to perfectly adjoin both vertical and horizontal SAFEBOARD® panels at 90°. The XT is created for the 4-way intersection of panels and achieves a high-strength and resistance to rotation for the joined panels at the intersection point.
Typical Applications:
- Install to join four panels vertically and horizontally within the substrate assembly.
- Introduce XX between panels to increase strength and overall assembly capacity for furniture and more complex substrate systems.
BÖXT Elements integrate seamlessly with both OSP and MCP. In a typical kitchen countertop setting, the SAFEBOARD® system is implemented as follows:
- OSP is installed under countertops that are designed with an overhang or span, such as islands and waterfall applications.
- MCP is installed under countertops where overhang support is not needed, such as around sinks or along cabinet walls.
- BÖXT Elements serve three main purposes:
- Create a clean and continuous system between panels by acting as the main connecting joint. This can be an XI between panels butted up edge-to-edge, an XW creating the joint between horizontal and vertical panels in a waterfall, an XL2 mounting the bottom of a waterfall panel, etc.
- Finish exposed edges of MCP and OSP. This is especially important for OSP edges which have a sharp edge when not finished.
- Add strength and torsional rigidity at all installed edges/joints. This adds incredible strength to long countertop overhangs when placed at installed at regular intervals.
